The Joys of Joining Soccer Tournaments

I love soccer and I do enjoy the drills and exercises that we do. I also love the game especially when our team scores a goal! But another bonus thrills soccer gives me is the adventure of visiting places I have never been to. It is indeed quite an experience going from one place to another, being housed in different types of abodes and eating different kinds of food ranging from instant noodles like pancit canton which is my favourite to sumptuous meals given by our hosts or by generous sponsors. Sometimes, when we are not able to get good financial support, we just get by with our very own meagre allowance. Yet, we still enjoy because we get to play our game and we are able to test our skills against teams from other parts of the Philippines.

Playing in tournaments means meeting people also…people who become acquaintances or lifetime friends or just Facebook friends and text mates. By meeting people, I get to grow socially too.

What else? Did I mention that because of tournaments I got to travel by ship, plane, bus and vans… sometimes comfortably and sometimes all cramp up. But even the transportation is not so comfortable, I still enjoy travelling because team bonding is strengthened and at the end of the long journey, after a little rest, I get to play SOCCER!

So far, I’ve been to Tarlac, Davao, Gingoog City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cotabato, Iligan, Tagum, Marawi , Cebu and Manila. For a small town boy like me, this is quite an experience.

Today, I am looking forward to the up and coming Nuvali Cup in Laguna. So I hope to see you there!

I really had a great time last summer, thanks again to football… It was a very productive summer because a friend of mine asked me to help out in conducting a football clinic for children ages 2 to 16 in our home town.
When I was asked to do the job, I was both excited and anxious. Excited because I would be doing waht I love and sharing my skills to future athletes. Anxious because it was the first time I would do it… I was afraid that I will not be able to hold the attention of the children or that they would not follow me cuz I am also a kid… As it turned out, all my anxiety was for nothing… Indeed, the children were fun to be with. They were so eager to learn the skills in soccer and did not even complain of being under the heat of the sun for hours. They did the drills and exercises almost to perfection.
When finally, the 4 weeks of training came to an end, I was happy to see the young athletes play the sport I love most… soccer.
Today,5 months after that training,  I learned that those kids are still playing football and most of them have improved their football skills and were even awarded as MVPs.
Looking back, I’m glad I did what i did last summer… for the love of the game…

Hello again… here I am again, the football buff. I just want to share with you the importance of warm up exercises before a football game…

About 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine called and told me that one of the varsity players in their school just crumpled down on the ground after playing a game of soccer. Upon investigation, they found out that he suffered from severe leg cramps and could not move cuz each movement intensified the pain. They panicked. He was rushed to the hospital and after a few hours, he was released and sent home.
What caused such injury? Well, they found out that this particular student forgot to do some warm up exercises before the game and so, with this, I would like to share with you the importance of warm up exercises before a game…

Warm up session for football aims not only to prepare a player for the game but also helps prevent injuries like the one experienced by the athlete I mentioned and other serious injuries because warm up exercises decreases the risks of muscle strains, sprains or even muscle tears. It also has a positive effect on ones performance in the game since warmed up muscles produce energy faster therefore the player’s agility or speed, skills and power are much improved as compared to an athlete who did not undergo warm up exercises.
Another plus for the warm up exercises –  it also helps attune the players’ mind to the upcoming game since the drills mimic the football movements. Thus, a good warm up exercise prepares the player mentally and physically for the game at hand.

With this in mind, warm up exercises indeed can save a lot… It can save an athlete from injuries and it can save the team a game!

So if we see a team, like the Phil Azkals do some marching exercises or stretching out on the field before the game, we know that the coach and the athletes are doing the right thing.

football has been popular in the philippines recently thanks to the philippine azkals. interest in the game is seen not only among the young people but also older age group. personally my love for the game started at the very young age as far as i remember i have been playing this sport. it has molded me become the person i am right now and it has landed me a scholarship in college. the game helped me maintain my health and helped me in developing good sportsmanship. it has been my dream that football will be as popular as basketball in the philippines and it seems rising of the azkals this dream is being fulfilled. to all football players out there let us continue supporting football in philippines  and let us continue enjoying the game.
